The Allotment Project is delighted to announce a collaborative volunteering day with Northumbria Water.

On 15th August 2024, enthusiastic volunteers from BT Group joined forces with The Allotment Project to create a new chicken coop, further enhancing the project’s facilities and community impact.

The Allotment Project, dedicated to supporting disadvantaged young people, is excited to welcome the expertise and energy of BT Group volunteers. This initiative will not only bolster the project’s resources but also provide a fantastic opportunity for community engagement and teamwork.

The day’s activities included building the foundations for our chicken coop, which will become a vital educational resource for the children and young people who participate in the project. This will support future gardening activities, promoting sustainability and hands-on learning about growing food.

The mission of The Allotment Project is to provide an alternative education and community engagement initiative for disadvantaged teenagers, young offenders, and at-risk youth in the Deerness Valley area. Through a combination of structured educational activities and recreational opportunities, our goal is to support personal development, promote sustainability, enhance mental health and wellbeing, and reduce social isolation.

“We are thrilled to have the support of BT Group volunteers,”

“Their dedication and hard work will make a significant difference to our facilities, enabling us to provide even more valuable experiences for the young people we support.”

Sol Walker, Managing Director of The Allotment Project.
