She’s been described as “Durham’s favourite girl”, she’s an award winning comedian, she’s an actress, she’s a popular local radio personality, she’s an in-demand presenter and speaker, … and now Sue Sweeney is Durham City AFC’s latest signing to the club’s CELEBRITY CITIZENS roster.
As part of the club’s strategy to reconnect with the broader Durham community, Sue has joined fellow ambassador Terry Fenwick to help revive the club’s fortunes.
“I’m so excited to be part of City’s CELEBRITY CITIZENS” said Ms. Sweeney. They’re a grand old club that have been an integral part of Durham’s sporting history”
Sue has trodden the well-tried path from vocalist in a two girl duo to her present position as a fully-fledged comedy act. Comedy has always been a major trait in her bubbly personality and it was inevitable that her hard work and dedication would eventually pay off.
In 1998 she was awarded “North East Comedy Artiste of the Year.” Her brash, larger than life alter ego takes a sideways look at life and relationships which has her audiences nodding their heads in agreement and screaming with laughter at the same time.
Sue now also hosts her own radio show on Durham Onair. She has found her calling and this world is a funnier place.
Durham City’s Chairman Chris Tanner said “What a gem ! We met Sue through our mutual friends at St Cuthbert’s Hospice where she promotes the charity’s lottery. She’s Durham through and through, and we look forward to working with her on exciting projects in the future”
