The Road Back follows County Durham football team Willington AFC and their brand new management team as they look to find promotion from the Wearside league back to the Northern League after two successive relegations.

For three weeks, award winning film director, Dean Midas followed the new management team of Steve “Howey” Howe, Lee Genner, Danny Lee, Lewis Graham & Chris Storey as they prepared for the upcoming season.

The Road Back follows the new squad at their training sessions and as they got ready for their opening pre-season friendly against local rivals Crook Town.

In 1950, Willington famously beat the mighty Bishop Auckland 4-0 in the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley in front of a crowd of 88,000.  In 1973 they were also close to one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history when they drew 0-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers.
