County Durham’s families are to be treated to a new live theatre spectacular this Autumn.

Tabby McTat the Busker’s Cat – from the creators of The Gruffalo – will be staged at Durham’s Gala Theatre on Wednesday 17th October.

Tabby McTat the Busker’s Cat is based on a book by the bestselling author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Sheffler.

The stage version – presented by Freckle Productions – follows the adventures of a busker and his beloved cat, who delight in finding ways to entertain the crowds.

But, unfortunately, the two become separated. The audience are left wondering if they will ever manage to find each other again.

On his wanderings, the cat – who possesses “the loudest of mee-ews” – even ends up in a welcoming home full of domestic comforts. But soon he finds himself missing his best friend Fred the busker and feels tempted to set off to search for him once more.

The manager of the Gala Theatre, Robin Byers, said, “We’re really looking forward to this new production.”

“Gala has hosted stage adaptations of some of Julia Donaldson’s other stories in the past, including The Gruffalo’s Child and Tiddler: The Storytelling Fish and families always tell us how much they enjoyed them.”

Tabby McTat is a lovely tale, all about friendship and loyalty, and it’s interwoven with some brilliant original songs.”

“It’s fantastic fun and a great way to introduce children to the magic of theatre.”

Tickets are priced at £12.00, but groups of ten or more can enjoy a special discounted price of £10.00 each. There will be two shows on Wednesday 17th October – at 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm.
