Four well-loved play parks in a County Durham town are set to receive a £10,000 funding boost.
The money has been allocated to Chilton Town Council by Cllr Stephen Bowron through his Councillor Grant Fund, managed by Durham County Council’s Local Network covering Coxhoe, Ferryhill and Spennymoor.
The funding will support the town council in replacing a broken piece of play equipment at West Chilton Terrace Junior Park with a new roundabout. Improvements will also be made at the Pentlands Playground, Oak Crescent Playground and South View Playground to ensure they can continue to provide a safe and engaging space for local children to play.
Cllr Nicola Lyons, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for communities and civic resilience, said:
“Children’s play parks are a vital community asset for families, offering a free, fun and safe environment for children to play together and experience the benefits of being active outdoors.
“This investment, from Cllr Bowron’s Council Grant Fund, will build upon Chilton Town Council’s fantastic work at maintaining these wonderful parks.
“I hope local children enjoy the new roundabout and the other improvements this funding will support.”
Cllr Sue Reece, Chair of Chilton Town Council, said:
“We identified that a piece of equipment at West Chilton Park needed replacing as part of our annual improvement plan. Cllr Bowron was at the meeting when this was discussed and offered to pay for the work through his Councillor Grant fund.
“We would like to thank Cllr Bowron for contributing this funding, which will support our efforts to look after these parks on behalf of the people of Chilton.”
