With Halloween just around the corner, we asked local award-winning horror film director, Dean Midas, for his favourite Halloween films that he would recommend for all the family.
Here is his choice of top movies to watch
Dean, over to you…
My daughters and I love this spooky season and these are the hair-raising films we take pleasure in watching again and again and that we personally recommend to you.
Up first is a big Halloween favourite in our house, the brilliant and masterly, Hocus Pocus, featuring the mischievous, but not at all scary, Sanderson sisters.
Teenager Max Dennison and his family move to Salem and on Halloween he accidently resurrects the trio of witches after 300 years.
Hocus Pocus is available to watch on Disney +…just don’t light The Black Flame Candle. Rated PG.
If there’s something strange in your neighbourhood…who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters follows scientists Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz and Egon Spengler as they fight ghosts in New York City. This 1984 classic is fun, spooky and ideal for the dark autumn nights. Rated 12.
Next is ParaNorman. The film is about a young boy called Norman who has the ability to communicate with ghosts. This is a perfect family friendly movie that’s eerie without being too scary. Rated PG.
Finally, this is not a movie, but a brand new short for Halloween 2024. Sing: Thriller.
Buster Moon and the team return with a spooky take on the Michael Jackson classic. This is one for all the family and one that I am sure will be watched again and again. Rated U.

Honourable mentions must also go to The Haunted Mansion (2003) The Addams Family and Halloweentown.
Have a fun, safe and Happy Halloween.
