A Durham fostering agency is celebrating its foster carers’ dedication ahead of Mother’s Day. Swiis Foster Care is recognising the invaluable contributions of foster carers who provide loving homes and support to children and young people in care, with a special celebration morning called ‘Every Parent Day’.

This special day, observed before Mother’s Day in the UK, acknowledges that fostering is a role embraced by people from all walks of life and that it’s not just mothers who foster.

To mark this occasion, Swiis Foster Care presented their Durham foster carers with a bouquet of flowers at a special ‘Every Parent Day’ coffee morning as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.

Alison Lawson, Registered Manager for Swiis Foster Care North East, said

“Our foster carers are so special, they go above and beyond every single day to provide a warm, safe and nurturing environment for children. Their dedication and compassion are the backbone of Swiis’s success, and we are immensely grateful for their contributions.

“Each foster carer brings with them their superpowers and a strength that creates a caring and supportive Swiis fostering family. Their spirit and determination truly embodies the meaning of ‘Every Parent Day.’ We are committed to supporting our carers in every way possible and are so proud of their remarkable achievements.”

Bianca, a foster carer who attended the ‘Every Parent Day’ celebration said

“we experienced a mix of excitement and apprehension as we opened our home and hearts to the children, but there is not a day that goes by without feeling grateful that the children are in our lives.

“The difference at Swiis is that team are genuinely interested in carers and the children and that makes a big difference.”

Swiis Foster Care remains committed to providing the support, training, and guidance to ensure their foster carers are equipped for the role of fostering and ensuring the outcomes for the children in their care remain outstanding.

At the end of March 2024, there were 42,615 fostering households in England with a growing deficit of foster carers. Driven by the need for more foster carers across the UK, Swiis Foster Care is committed to recruiting a greater number of foster carers in Durham and beyond who will be appropriately trained and supported to excel in their new fostering career.
