A tribute to the regions miners who fought for us all beneath the surface

He’d wash in a tin bath

Before the exhausted embers of coal,

Leaving his back black for fear of weakness,

Worn to suit and blend with the darkness,

Tearing away at the seams,

Down in the trenches,

In the intestinal earth,

His life, the pits,

Picking diamonds in the rough,

To serve his country,

Placing his life on the line,

With the threat of gas hanging in the air.
