A Halloween horror film made in County Durham has given its director, Dean Midas, his best ever opening for one of his films.
The Legend of Sayer Hicks, was made entirely on a mobile phone around the County Durham area and has been viewed nearly 40,000 times in just 14 days.
The short film features American actor Roger L Jackson who is the voice of Ghostface in the Scream franchise. He provides the atmospheric voiceover at the start of the film.
“This is my 10th short film in 5 years, usually the views start to go down, but with every new film we are releasing, we are breaking records. Huge thanks to the cast, crew and all the venues around the north east who continue to support us .”
Writer and director Dean Midas
The Legend of Sayer Hicks is the second release based on The Devil’s Stone, a central feature of the landscaped area outside the council offices in the centre of Crook.
It is thought to be over 10,000 years old and called the Devil’s Stone because it is said if you run seven times around it, the devil himself will appear. The local legend is the central premise of the franchise.
