Two Bank Holiday Weekend Reasons to Rediscover Durham

Two free events are being staged in Durham over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, designed to encourage people back into the city centre safely!

The first Durham Retro Day takes place on Sunday, August 29th, and Durham Classic Car Show returns on Bank Holiday Monday, August 30th.

Durham Classic Car Show fills the city centre with over 100 cars, with vehicles displayed on Palace Green, in the Market Place, in Millennium Place and on Framwellgate Bridge.  These will include a Lancia Integrale Evo Marque, a Delorean, a Ford Zodiac and a Ford Consul.  The day’s events are free to attend, with the public invited to photograph the exhibited cars and chat with owners.  Alongside the exhibitions, there will be live music in Market Place and Millennium Place and free activities for children including a Treasure Trail, face painting and Bugs ‘n’ Stuff exhibits.

James Wilson, Deputy Manager of Durham Markets Company, commented: “Many people have a passion for cars and this day is definitely going to be a must for them.  But it’s also for everyone, all ages and all the family. Such is the vast array of vehicles on display in Durham City Centre on Bank Holiday Monday that it will make quite a spectacle, and with special events to appeal to the youngsters, it’s going to be a great day out in Durham.”

The first Durham Retro Day, on Sunday 29th August, will combine a Vinyl Fair with a Vintage Market and live music.  Durham Town Hall hosts the Vinyl Fair, while the Market Place will have a Vintage Market.  There will be live music in Market Place from Scott Michael Cavagan, Benjamin Amos, Paul Skerritt and Ashley Stirling.

On both days there will be free arts and crafts in the Market Place with Durham Wildlife Trust, and the Market Hall will be open.

Durham Retro Day markets and entertainment will run from 11am to 4pm on Sunday August 29th, and Durham Classic Car Show events take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 30th, also from 11am to 4pm. For the latest updates and details for both events go to durhammarkets.co.uk/event/
