Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, is to reopen its doors on 23rd July 2020.
The open air museum, which has been forced to close since March, confirmed its planned reopening date after the Government announcement that museums will be allowed to open from next month.
Entry will be by pre-booked time slot for all visitors. Further details about the reopening and booking process will be announced in early July.
Rhiannon Hiles, Beamish’s Deputy Director, said: “We’re excited to announce that we plan to reopen on Thursday, 23rd July, and we can’t wait to welcome our visitors once again.
“The safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers is our top priority and there will be health and hygiene measures around the museum, including pre-booked entry timeslots for all visitors.
“We’ll be keeping everyone updated with more information as our preparations continue, and we work through the details of the updated guidance from the Government.
“We’re really looking forward to being able to reopen our doors to welcome visitors back to the museum again.”
During lockdown, the museum has been sharing some Beamish at Home activities on its website, including a steam train ride at Pockerley Waggonway, lesson in The Pit Village school and horse and carriage journey around the museum.
An online shop has also been launched, featuring unique Beamish items, inspired by the museum’s exhibits and collections, and also a special Beamish edition of board game Monopoly.
