Dean Midas

Dean Midas, an award-winning North East filmmaker, is putting Durham on the cinematic map with his latest micro-budget horror short film, The Stitcher. Filmed entirely on location in and around Durham, the movie highlights the rich history, striking architecture, and vibrant character of the city, demonstrating how Durham’s iconic backdrop can set the stage for compelling, atmospheric storytelling.

Filming Locations

Shot using just his mobile phone, The Stitcher captures the beauty and historic allure of Durham, bringing regional landmarks into the spotlight. Key filming locations across the city and surrounding areas include:

  • The Shakespeare Tavern

  • The City Theatre

  • The Radisson Blu Hotel

  • Iconic local spots along the River Wear and Prebends Bridge

North East Talent

Beyond showcasing Durham’s breathtaking visual appeal, the project is a celebration of regional talent. The Stitcher features a 100% North East cast and crew, bringing together local actors, creative talent, and venue partners to produce high-impact, grassroots cinema.

Views and Sequel

Since its release on YouTube, TikTok and Facebook in October, The Stitcher has accumulated over 210,000 views across platforms, generating widespread community interest and drawing attention to the local locations featured on screen. Following this success, Dean Midas has announced a sequel, The Stitcher 2, set for release in 2027.

Durham is one of the most stunning locations you could ever wish to film in. Even in a horror film, the beauty, history, and unique atmosphere of the city shine through. Using local venues like the City Theatre and the Shakespeare Tavern, combined with incredible North East actors, allows us to showcase the amazing talent and venues our region has to offer to a global audience.
