Durham Permaculture Teacher Publishes First Book with International Release

A local voice with a global reach

A Durham City-based permaculture teacher is set to reach an international audience with the publication of his first book this spring. Wilf Richards, veg box manager for Abundant Earth, will see The Power of Permaculture Principles released on 1 March 2026.

Published by Permanent Publications, the book will be available internationally.

Three years of collaboration

The book is the result of three years of work and brings together contributions from more than 40 collaborators from around the world. It focuses on the philosophy and guiding principles behind permaculture, with an emphasis on how these ideas can support greener ways of living.

Richards has been teaching permaculture in Durham City for over two decades, building a local reputation grounded in practical experience and community education.

He says, “when we align ourselves with the principles of nature then we become more connected to nature and can shift our way of being towards a greener life.”

Supporting designers and educators

The book has been welcomed within permaculture education circles. Morag Gamble from the Permaculture Education Institute said:

“Wilf, together with a wonderful community of collaborators, has created a book that sits beautifully at the intersection of designing and educating. It supports designers to deepen their practice and helps educators bring more clarity, creativity, and care into their teaching.”

Availability

The Power of Permaculture Principles can be ordered signed directly from the author. Pre-orders are also available now through Permanent Publications ahead of the March release.
