Durham youngsters live their WSL dream thanks partnership with local Specsavers

A large group of female athletes of varying ages, including adult women and young girls, pose for a photo on a green sports field under a bright blue sky.

A DURHAM girls football team has got a taste of their WSL dreams as they were mascots for the day at Maiden Castle.

Players from Brandon Community FC girls’ teams were mascots in Durham WFC’s recent WSL 2 victory over Portsmouth.

Durham ran out 2-1 winners against Portsmouth as 21 girls got involved with the action – thanks to the two clubs having partnerships with Specsavers Durham.

The locally-owned and run Specsavers store – based in the city’s North Road – is a sponsor of both Durham WFC and Brandon Community FC.

The Brandon girls walked out with the Durham players before kick off, took part in a half-time parade on the pitch and one player shone in the half-time keepy-up challenge.

Specsavers Durham is passionate about supporting its local community and promoting positive health outcomes through sport by keeping on top of your eye and ear health.

Gavin Donnelly, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Durham, says: ‘Sport and health go hand in hand and if we can use our position at the centre of the community to promote that message, we’ll do everything we can.

‘I believe we’ve got some of the stars of tomorrow in the Brandon set-up and we were delighted to see them link up with another one of our partners – Durham WFC – for their recent win over Portsmouth.

‘We hope both clubs and our partnerships with them continue to go from strength to strength.’

Specsavers Durham’s optometrists are experts in looking after people’s vision and managing their eye health.
