The circus is rolling into town this weekend with a packed programme of free entertainment and family-friendly activities.
Durham County Council is once again bringing a vibrant family fun event to Spennymoor Town Centre this Saturday, 23 May.
Funded by the All Together for Spennymoor Pride in Place Board, the event will feature street performers, walkabout entertainment, daring acrobats and a range of hands-on circus workshops for visitors to try themselves.
The activity-packed day will be held in the marketplace from 11am to 4pm and promises to be a day of free family fun, hosted by Let’s Circus.
Cllr Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, tourism, regeneration and high street, said:
“Following a fantastic reception at previous street festivals, we’re pleased to bring this incredibly popular vibrancy event back to Spennymoor.
“Through events such as these, we are helping to attract more visitors to the high street, boost footfall and make our towns vibrant places to visit. We would encourage everyone to come along for an afternoon of guaranteed fun that is free for all the family.”
Ready to sweep audiences off their feet is acrobat and juggler Felicity Footloose. Armed with only a ladder, a few props and the best of the eighties, visitors will get the chance to see Felicity perform her signature move. Hanging by her feet and juggling razor sharp knives, she is the only performer in the world to perform this anti-gravity stunt.
Also performing will be Australian act Balloonatic. This unique act inside a giant balloon has won hearts and funny bones all over the world. Expect pure visual comedy that, once seen, is never forgotten.
In between the demonstrations, visitors can enjoy the antics of Felix Brent the English Gent, a walkabout penny-farthing act.
Circus workshops will also run in between performances, at which audiences can try out their juggling skills.
There will also be free activities including face painting, mini golf and a climbing wall.

Timings of the event will be:
- 11am – Introduction
- 11.30am – Felicity Footloose Street Show
- 12.15pm – Circus Cabaret with Nat Lunatrics- with hula hoop act by Freya Averley
- 1pm – Balloonatic

- 3pm – Circus Cabaret with Nat Lunatrics – with handstand cane act by Maddie Fuller
Alan Boddy, chair of the All Together for Spennymoor Pride in Place Board, said:
“We are delighted to support the return of this fantastic free circus festival to Spennymoor. Events such as this bring real energy into the town centre, giving residents and visitors the chance to come together, enjoy something unique and celebrate our community.
“We are proud to fund initiatives that create vibrant experiences for all ages and help showcase Spennymoor as a welcoming and lively place to be.
“We would encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the event and talk to us about our Spennymoor Pride in Place Programme and how they can get involved.”
