Harbro Electrical’s Christmas Toy Drive Returns to Bring Joy to County Durham Children

Harbro Electrical, a long-standing Peterlee business (est. 1994), has launched its annual Harbro Christmas Toy Drive, an initiative that ensures children from local struggling households receive at least one gift under the tree this year.

The drive has been running since 2020 and has grown into an important community effort supported by residents, local tradespeople, and independent businesses.

This year, Harbro is aiming to make the appeal its biggest yet.

Why This Story Matters…

  • Local need is rising: County Durham continues to see high levels of child poverty, with increasing numbers of families unable to afford Christmas gifts.
  • Community-led impact: The Toy Drive is powered entirely by local generosity – a story of people helping people.
  • Strong human angle: Phil, the owner of Harbro, is deeply passionate about ensuring no child in the region wakes up without a gift on Christmas morning.
  • Great visuals: The donated toy pile grows daily in the Harbro showroom, offering an excellent photo or video opportunity.

“Come on, County Durham, let’s make sure no local child goes without a gift this Christmas. We sadly have many children below the poverty line in our region, and this is one small way we can bring a bit of Christmas magic back into their lives.”
