Are you in the Durham area and would like to give back to your local community? If so, Blind Veterans UK might just have the volunteering role for you!
Since 1915, Blind Veterans UK has provided support to tens of thousands of vision-impaired veterans. We provide veterans with rehabilitation, training, practical advice, and emotional support. Together we help rebuild life after sight loss.
At Blind Veterans UK, we are committed to supporting our veterans no matter where they are. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who provide crucial social interaction for veterans who can often feel isolated or lonely.
We have volunteering opportunities available in the Durham area now, and we would love to hear from you! A visit to one of our veterans could be as simple as a cuppa and a chat at the veteran’s home, supporting the veteran to access their local area, or if you are keen to get outdoors, we do have a veteran in the area who would like to improve their fitness through running! Regardless of the role, you could be the friendly face that makes all the difference to one of our veterans.
All it takes to get started is to fill in an application form via the Blind Veterans UK website, then you will be contacted by the local Volunteer Coordinator to arrange a time to meet and discuss the role further. A full induction to the charity and all relevant training will be provided.
Please note that all applicants must be 18 years and over, and references and a criminal records check are required at the application stage.
