The Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation (DCSF) Equestrian team competed for the 1st time in the Tri County Schools Championship, winning their events and qualifying for the National Finals.
The group of girls Olivia Graham (Year 11), Edie Cracknell (Year 9), Chloe Johnson (Year 8) and Lola Cracknell (Year 6) are the first team to represent the DCSF, a new foundation created as a result of the merger of Durham School and The Chorister School.
This early success is an exciting start for the foundation and proves promising for when the merger is fully complete. The two schools, Durham School and The Chorister School became one legal entity in February 2021 and as of September 2021 will operate as one school.
Over the past fortnight, the team of Olivia, Edie, Chloe and Lola triumphed in the 80cm and 90cm classes, meaning they have qualified for the National competition. Alongside the team event, Edie and Olivia won individual classes too.
On Thursday 8th April, Olivia, Edie and Lola represented the DCSF and were successful again, winning the team event and qualifying for the National finals at Hickstead which are due to take place in August. Olivia also won both of her individual classes which means that she qualifies for the Nationals as an individual.
Mr Kieran McLaughlin, Principal of the Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation said, “We are very proud of the girls for their fantastic achievement and wish them the best of luck at the National finals in August. The merger of Durham School and The Chorister School is very exciting and our Equestrian team have proven that the two schools coming together as one will only strengthen the quality of what we can accomplish. Well done girls!”
