County Durham-based tech business Redu Group have partnered with Greggs Foundation to provide free breakfasts to the children of Easington Colliery Primary School.

The sponsorship, which runs for a minimum of two years, entitles all children who attend the school to a free balanced breakfast. For various reasons, many children sadly don’t get the healthy start to their day that they deserve. Thanks to Greggs Foundation and Redu Group, the children of Easington Colliery will be given the support needed to thrive in their learning environment.

Easington Colliery Primary School is one of over 696 Breakfast Clubs across the UK being supported by Greggs Foundation and their sponsors. These Breakfast Clubs serve around 44,000 children every school day which equates to 8.5 million meals per year that children may not have received otherwise.

If a child is hungry, they will find it harder to concentrate and learn. Greggs Foundation and Redu Group understand the impact a lack of nutrition can have upon a child’s academic performance and ultimately believe that every child should be given the opportunity to excel. With a worldwide pandemic underway and the cost of living consistently rising, Breakfast Clubs like this benefit not only those on low incomes, but also working families who’s budget has tightened as of late.

Easington Colliery Head Teacher Beverly Jones tells us the importance of their Breakfast Club “Breakfast Club is an extremely important start to our school day, providing an opportunity for pupils to socialise with their friends and kick start their day with a nutritious breakfast.”

Redu Group CEO Gary Hunter, who’s children attend Easington Colliery Primary School is proud to sponsor the initiative “As both an entrepreneur and a father, I’m delighted to be able to give back to my local community by sponsoring Easington Colliery’s Breakfast Club in association with Greggs Foundation. A nutritious breakfast is key for learning and development – every child deserves the chance to thrive.”

Redu Group are giants in the Gift Card industry. With their sector leading technology, they are market leaders in the processing and management of gift card programmes offering end to end fulfilment of digital and physical gift cards. They work with a portfolio of large clients such as B&M, New Look, Pizza Express and also Greggs. Alongside this, they have been appointed as authorised suppliers on the Government voucher scheme, distributing government funds by Gift Voucher to children in receipt of free school meals and others in need. Redu Group is tackling inequality head-on as a local business in a low income area. They have employed 40+ staff, many of whom live locally.

Through Redu’s support, all children at Easington Colliery School can receive a free nutritious breakfast every school day.

The local primary school is thrilled to have received this sponsorship “We are extremely grateful to Redu for their sponsorship. It’s a huge reassurance to know that we are supported in our efforts to ensure that all children have access to breakfast to ensure they are ready to learn and have a great start to their day.”
