With half-term now upon us, there’s plenty going on to keep County Durham’s kids entertained.

Hardwick, Wharton, and Blackhill and Consett Parks will play host to activities ranging from building recycled robots to exploring an enchanted village.

At Durham City’s Wharton Park, kids will have the chance to search the grounds for hidden robots. Trail sheets are priced at £1 and children who find all the robots get a sticker.

The trail sheets can be purchased from the park’s café between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm, with the activity taking place every day up to and including Sunday 2nd June.

Wharton Park will also be hosting Lego workshops in its education room. Delivered by Block Parties, the one-hour workshops will run between 10.30 am and 3.15 pm on Tuesday 28th May. Tickets cost £4.50 and advanced booking is necessary.

At Wharton Park on Wednesday 29th May, there will be another robot-themed activity. Kids will get the chance to make their own robots from recycled materials. Hosted in the park’s education room, these two-hour workshops will not only be great fun, but will educate children about the importance of recycling.

The robot-building workshops will run from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon and 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm. Tickets are priced at £6 and must be booked in advance.

And on Friday 31st May, Wharton Park will play host to some ‘Spring Corner’ storytelling sessions. The sessions – based on The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle – will run from 10.00 am to 11.30 am and 1.00 pm to 2.30 pm. The sessions cost £4 per child and booking is required.

Kids who find all the tiny houses of the Enchanted Village will get a sticker.

Durham County Council’s clean and green manager, Jimmy Bennett, said, “We know children will be looking forward to the half-term break and we have laid on a wide range of fun activities to keep them entertained and also physically active while they’re off school.”

“Our parks really are great days out for all the family and we’d encourage people to visit and explore them.”
