County Durham’s mums-to-be are being urged to discover the benefits of aqua natal classes.
Aqua natal is a system of pool-based exercises specially designed for pregnant women. It’s a low-intensity workout which is both fun and safe.
Aqua natal sessions are now being offered at three County Durham swimming pools. And – because of a deal which allows new customers at County Durham leisure centres to get a day pass for free – mothers-to-be can sample the classes free of charge.
The aqua natal classes are available at:
- Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre, on Wednesdays, from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm
- Spennymoor Leisure Centre, on Thursdays, from 11.15 am to 12 noon
- Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, on Saturdays, from 3.05 pm to 3.50 pm

Aqua natal classes normally cost £3.60 for concessions and £4.50 for those with Thrive Cards. The classes can also be enjoyed by those with swim membership, which starts at £22.50 a month.
Kate Blocki, who is a fitness instructor at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, said, “Aqua natal has lots of benefits.”
“The buoyancy of the water offers support whilst you exercise and helps to improve core stability, balance and coordination, as well as helping to reduce back pain.”
“It also gives mums some much needed time to engage with their body and their baby, and to meet other ladies who are also pregnant.”
“Our friendly instructors offer guidance throughout the session, making it accessible for all levels and abilities.”
Aqua natal exercises can help reduce blood pressure, improve cardiovascular efficiency and boost circulation, as well as providing emotional benefits which help keep both mums and babies relaxed.
