County Durham’s parents are being reminded that only a limited time is left to apply for primary school places.
The deadline for applications for the next academic year (beginning September 2019) is Tuesday 15th January 2019.
For a child to start school in September 2019, they must have been born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015.
Durham County Council’s cabinet member for children and young people’s services, Cllr Olwyn Gunn, said, “In our county, we benefit from many schools with superb reputations and dedicated staff, and we hope that – through our admissions arrangements – parents can express their preferences and see their children enjoy a happy and successful education.”
“We know that the decision of where to send your child is a major one and can be difficult, but we would urge parents to make sure they apply by the deadline.”
“A late application greatly reduces your chances of getting into your preferred school.”
You can make applications for primary school places by post or online by going to www.durham.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
If you post your forms, please make sure you use signed-for or special delivery services.
You can request application forms by telephoning 03000 265 896 or by writing to: The School Places and Admissions Team, Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UJ.
Offers of places will be sent to parents on 16th April 2019.
For applications that were made online, offers will be sent out by email. For applications made by post, offers will be sent out by letter. These letters should arrive no later than 18th April 2019.
